THE PARODOS VEILPerformative theater in Vive VR.
My Role: Designer, Programmer
Team Member: Sydney Ayers A multiplayer storytelling experiment in virtual reality, The Parodos Veil is a 2-player game in which the first player wears a VR headset (the veil) while the second (the puppeteer) uses Vive motion controllers to manipulate the former's perceived virtual world.
The puppeteer is able to make impressions on the virtual world (and on the veiled player) through a variety of objects (lanterns, knives, hands, masks) as well as through a series of abilities (scaling the world, changing the time of day, etc.). In this way, The Parodos Veil explores the power and storytelling dynamic that is created by by the assymetrical distribution of agency between the two players. The Parodos Veil was created in about four weeks for Paolo Pedercini's Experimental Game Design course at Carnegie Mellon University. |
